Joseph “Joe” Dotson, 93

Joseph “Joe” Dotson, age 93, of Imlay City, Michigan, died Wednesday, October 22, 2025 at his home surrounded by his loving family. Joseph Alvah Dotson was born May 11, 1932 in Ogemaw, MI. He is the son of the late Frederick Sr. and the late Dora (Montney) Dotson. Joe lived most of his life in Imlay City, MI. He attended night school and graduated Imlay City High School in 1984. Joe married Barbara Talmage on August 1, 1970 in Imlay City, Michigan.
He was employed as a Core Maker by Brisk Foundry for 28 years, worked as a Welder at Van Dyke Welding in Imlay City, and retired as a Welder and Supervisor from South Cedar Steel in Imlay City.
Joe loved his wife and family. He enjoyed fishing, deer hunting and gardening. He was a prankster. Joe used to help with collections for the Shriner’s Children’s Hospital.
He is survived by: his wife, Barbara Dotson of Imlay City, MI; daughters: Dorothy Ella Sisson of Flint, MI, Charlene (Dennis) Castle of Capac, MI and Julie (Craig) Kuttkuhn of Waterford, MI; his sons, Tim Robinson of Howell, MI, James Dotson of Durand, Oklahoma and Mark (Lisa) Robinson of Vienna, Virginia; son-in-law, Steve Hillman of Imlay City, MI; his sister, Martha Dotson of Holland, MI; and brothers: Charles “Jack” Dotson of Imlay City, MI, William Dotson of Lapeer, MI, Richard (Jeanette) Dotson of Mayville, MI, Rodger (Gail) Dotson of Leesburg, Florida and David (Becky) Dotson of Lapeer, MI.
He is also survived by: his grandchildren, Paige (Andres) Ortiz, Layne (Mark) Brown, David (Jennifer) Penzien, Charles (Renee) Penzien, James Penzien, Steve Sisson, Jordan Dotson, Joseph Dotson, Nicholas Robinson, Victoria (Joseph) Kruemmer, Ryan Robinson, Christopher Castle, Jaylene Castle, Kelly (Jon) Corrente and Robin (Kyle) Farmer; his great-grandchildren; Travis Hunter, Elias Brown, Christian Penzien, Brenden Penzien, Cole Penzien, Landon Penzien, Austin Penzien, Delanney Penzien, Jane Kruemmer, Maci Farmer, Ryder Farmer, Aubrey Corrente and Jack Corrente; and his great-great-grandchild, Wyatt Hunter.
Joe was preceded in death by: his daughter, Judith Hillman; infant son, Joseph A. Dotson, Jr.; son-in-law, David Penzien; brother, Frederick (Donna) Dotson; infant brother, Robert Leroy Dotson; his sisters-in-law, Olabelle Dotson and JoAnne Dotson; and brother-in-law Harry Dotson.
The Funeral Service was held Saturday, October 25, 2025 at Goodland Community Church, 2008 N. Van Dyke, Imlay City, MI. Jerry Schriber officiated.
