Gary Roy, 78

Gary Roy, age 78, of Imlay City, MI, died Tuesday, May 6, 2025 at McLaren Oakland Hospital of Pontiac, MI. Gary Kenneth Roy was born August 3, 1946 in Flint, MI. He is the son of the late Clifford and the late Velma (Sommers) Roy. Gary lived most of his life in the Imlay City, MI area. He is a graduate of Imlay City High School. Gary attended Eastern Michigan University and Wentworth Military Academy in Lexington, Missouri. He proudly served in the United States Marine Corp from 1966-1969. Gary married Mavis Mulholland on May 10, 1969 in Imlay City, Michigan. He was preceded in death by Mavis on October 5, 2024.

In 1974, Gary joined his father’s company as a Manufacturer’s Representative buying and selling auto parts and anything related to automobiles. He retired in 2015.

Gary was elected 9 times and served 18 years as the Lapeer County Commissioner.

He was a member of the Marine Corp League, Imlay City American Legion, Sheriff’s Posse and the Lapeer County Sportsmen’s Club.

Gary enjoyed collecting guns and was a gun enthusiast. He also held a relics license.

He is survived by: his sons, Paul Roy of Imlay City, MI and Jonathan (Kathryn) Roy of Imlay City, MI; ; sister, Mary Lynn Reynolds Roy of Georgia; grandchildren, Leandra (Christopher) Miller, Faith Roy, Austin Roy, Kacey Roy, and Gabriel Roy; and his great-grandson, Brooks Miller.

Gary was preceded in death by: his wife, Mavis Roy; parents, Clifford and Velma Roy; and his sister, Gail Schriber Roy.

The funeral will be held 9:30 a.m., Friday, May 9, 2025 at North Goodland Baptist Church, 3080 N. Van Dyke, Imlay City, MI. Reverend John Chippewa, pastor of North Goodland Baptist Church, will officiate. Interment will follow at Great Lakes National Cemetery, 4200 Belford Road, Holly, MI.

The family will be available for visitation 2-5 & 6-8 p.m., Thursday, May 8th from at Muir Brothers Funeral Home of Imlay City, 225 N. Main Street, Imlay City, MI and 9-9:30 a.m., Friday, May 9th, at North Goodland Baptist Church.

Arrangements were entrusted to Muir Brothers Funeral Home of Imlay City.
