Doy Smith, 84

Doy Smith, age 84, of Imlay City, Michigan, died Saturday, April 12, 2025 at home in Imlay City. Mrs. Smith was born November 30, 1940 in Nashville, TN. She is the daughter of the late Rufus and the late Maude (Collier) Goodwin. Doy grew up in the Burton and Flint, MI areas. She attended Central High School and Beecher High School in Flint, MI. Doy married Robert Dawson. Her husband, Robert, preceded her in death. Doy moved to Lapeer County in 1993 and has lived in Imlay City for the past few years. She was a snowbird and went to Florida during the winter months.

She was a Home Maker, raising her family. Doy was an in-home health care provider in the Flint and Fenton, MI areas.

Doy was a longtime member of Faith Christian Family Church in Lapeer. She enjoyed traveling across the United States and back and forth to Florida.

She is survived by: her sons, David (Kristina) Hopkins of Imlay City, MI and Keith (Olivia) Kaiser of Lansdowne, PA; sister, Barbara Thomas of VA; her grandchildren, Naomi Kaiser, Jason McGinn, Jennay Hopkins and Dawson Hopkins; and three great-grandchildren.

Doy was preceded in death by: her parents, Rufus and Maude Goodwin; daughters, Doy Sue Hopkins, Teresa Villareal and Tina Wolf; and her brothers, Jack Goodwin and Rufus Goodwin.

A memorial is not planned at this time.
