Russell Wampler, 83

Russell Wampler, age 83, of Attica, Michigan passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 28, 2025 at McLaren Lapeer Regional Hospital surrounded by his family. Russell James Wampler was born August 31, 1941 in Level Green, Pennsylvania. He is the son of the late James and the late Lillian (Long) Wampler. Russell grew up in Trafford, PA, graduating from Norwin High School in 1959. Russell married Margaret Burkhert on March 9, 1963 in East Orange, New Jersey. They moved to Detroit, MI shortly after getting married. Russ & Margaret moved to a farm in Yale in 1977 and then to Attica, MI in 2005.

He worked as an electrician for Ford Motor Company at the Chesterfield Trim Plant and retired after nearly 40 years in 2003. Russell was very involved and a faithful member of Gateway Assembly in Imlay City, MI since 1977. He always had a large garden and liked to farm, in addition to raising pigs, cows, and chickens. Russell enjoyed hunting, fishing, watching Gunsmoke, and Steelers Football. He also enjoyed attending his grandkids sporting events and band concerts. He faithfully took bass lessons until the age of 80. Russell had a sweet tooth and loved his candy.

Russell is survived by: his sons, Paul (Denise) Wampler of Attica, MI and David (Kathy) Wampler of Ft. Worth, TX; sister, Sandy (George) Gandy of Joliet, IL; his daughter-in-law, Wendy Wampler of Imlay City, MI; and grandchildren; Russell, Shelby, Stephen, Mason, Micah, and Meredith. He was preceded in death by: his wife, Margaret; son, Carl Wampler; his sisters, Kathy Dempsey and Janet Sculio; brother, Jerry Wampler; and his parents, James and Lillian Wampler.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, February 4, 2025 at Gateway Assembly. Pastor Jeff Krist officiated.
