Alice Steckly, age 83

Alice Steckly, age 83, of Imlay City, MI, died Saturday, November 30, 2024, at home. Alice Jean Penzien was born March 29, 1941 in Goodland Township, MI. She was the daughter of the late Lawrence and the late Elverta (Wankasky) Penzien. Alice grew up and lived her entire life in the Imlay City area. She was a graduate of Imlay City High School, Class of 1959. Alice continued her education at Shapiro School of Nursing (Sinai Hospital) in Detroit, MI and graduated as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in 1961. She married Douglas Steckly on July 14, 1962, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Imlay City. She was preceded in death by her husband, Doug, on September 6, 2024.
She was an LPN at Lapeer County General Hospital, Dr. Merle ‘Ben’ Haney’s office, the Harrington/Bristol Clinic in Imlay City, and at McLaren Health Center in Imlay City. She retired from McLaren Health Center in 2006.
Alice was a ‘GREAT MOM’: she loved her family, baking, cooking, collecting recipes and other things, and gardening (especially harvesting her asparagus).
She is survived by her daughters, Beth (Michael) Eddy of Imlay City, MI and Diane (Barry) Ethridge of Imlay City, MI; sons, Daniel Steckly of Imlay City, MI and Roger Steckly of Imlay City, MI; her sisters, Mary Penzien of Port Huron, MI and Linda Penzien of Port Huron, MI; and her brother, William ‘Bill’ Penzien of Brown City, MI. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Heather Gutzeit, Heidi (Demetrius) Johnson, Amy Miranda and Declan Steckly; great-grandchildren, Allison, Robert and Aiden; and her great-great-grandchildren, Easton, Kash and Lainie.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Doug Steckly; her brothers, Larry (Dorothy) Penzien, Bernard Penzien, Lee Penzien; her sisters-in-law, Ola Belle (Bruce) Middlesworth and Jane Penzien.
The Funeral Service will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, December 10, 2024 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 200 N. Cedar St., Imlay City, MI. Reverend Sharon Smith, pastor of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, will officiate.
The family will be available for visitation Monday, December 9 from 4-8 p.m. at Muir Brothers Funeral Home of Imlay City, 225 N. Main Street, Imlay City, MI and 10-11 a.m., Tuesday, December 10 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church.
