Ronald James Schmitz, 77

Ronald James Schmitz of Allenton passed away at McLaren Macomb on Tuesday, May 19, 2026 at the age of 77.
Ron was born on January 16, 1949 in Bad Axe, Michigan to Anthony and Lillian (nee Ebach) Schmitz. On October 25, 1969, he married the love of his life Margaret Klee at Our Lady of Lake Huron in Harbor Beach, Michigan and they shared 56 wonderful years raising their four daughters and making priceless memories together. Ron worked at Ford Motor Company for 38 years finishing his career as a Cutter Grind. He also was on the Berlin Fire Department for 34 years, selflessly giving of himself to help and serve others. He was a parish member of St. John Catholic Church in Allenton and was a member of the Usher Club and served as Treasurer. Ron enjoyed working, even when he wasn’t at work. He was a farmer at heart. He enjoyed gardening, or anything that required his tractor. He had many skills such as woodworking, which he used to remodel his kitchen and completing many other projects for his family. When he wasn’t working, he enjoyed playing cards and games with friends and family. He enjoyed camping his whole life, and once he retired Ron and Margaret enjoyed snow birding in Florida. Ron’s passing has left a void in the hearts of all who knew him. He will be greatly missed.
Beloved husband of Margaret; cherished father of Sherry (David) Ren, Laurie (Jeff) Deiotte, Nancy (Mark) Campbell and Amy (Kevin) Schweitzer; beloved grandpa of Tyler Ren, Abriel (Nathan) Dickinson, Josie (Justin) Godde, Luke (Grace) Ren, Andrea (Carl) Henkle, Paul (Kiera) Ren, Jane Ren, Stephanie Ren, Emily (Sean Wolschleger) Deiotte, Jennifer Deiotte, Jeff (Jordin Whittaker) Deiotte, Jacob Deiotte, Claire Deiotte, Toby (Angela) Campbell, Samantha Campbell, Joseph Campbell, Joshua Campbell, Catherine Campbell, Zackory Schweitzer, Anthony (Kali Dutcher) Schweitzer, Kyle Schweitzer and Nathan Schweitzer; beloved great-grandpa of Ezekiel and Ava Dickinson, Gwayan Ren, and Adeline Ren and 3 on the way; dear brother of Helen (Eugene) Bischer, Agnes (the late Gerald) Klee, and the late Leona (the late Clarence) Depcinski; and many extended family and friends. Visitation for Ron was held on Tuesday, May 26, 2026 from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with a 6:45 p.m. Pass & Review by the Berlin Fire Department, 7:00 p.m. Scripture Service and 7:15 Rosary at Tiffany-Young & Hauss Funeral Home, 73919 Fulton, Armada. The funeral mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, May 27, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. with 10:00 a.m. instate at St. John the Evangelist Church, 883 Capac Road, Allenton. Burial will immediately follow the funeral mass in West Berlin Cemetery, Berlin Township.
