Martin Gary Nelson, 61

Martin Gary Nelson December 25, 1963 – June 1, 2025.

Martin Gary Nelson (Marty) passed away on June 1, 2025, at the age of 61. Born on Christmas Day in 1963 in Lapeer, Michigan, Marty lived a life full of curiosity, humor and heart.

A graduate of Imlay City High School, Class of 1982, Marty played football, saxophone and wrestled and was a member the Future Farmers of America (FFA). He attended St. Clair Community College then pursued a career in information technology. Over the years, Marty worked as an IT Specialist for Fox News, Disney, US Navy and Hilton Hotels in Burbank, California, where his technical expertise and easygoing nature made him a trusted and well-liked colleague.

Marty was a believer in Christ, and his faith was a quiet, but steady source of strength in his life. He enjoyed nature and loved spending time outdoors. He was also an adventurous cook, always eager to try new recipes and share meals with those he cared about. He also played guitar in an amateur pop/country band, finding joy in making music and performing with friends. Known for his sharp wit and warm presence, Marty had a gift for making others laugh and feel at ease.

He is survived by his beloved son, Nicholas Nelson; his sister-in-law, Katherine Nelson; his brother, Mark Nelson; his sister, Missy Morris (Gordon); his brother, Preston Nelson (Julie); and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Gary and Beverly, and his brother, Gerald.

Marty will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew and loved him.

A memorial service will be announced at a later date.
