John Arthur Schmidlin, 84

John Arthur Schmidlin, 84, of Berlin Township passed away Sunday, May 18, 2025, peacefully in the comfort of his home.

He was born in Detroit, October 7, 1940, the son of the late Edward and Lonnie (Molck) Schmidlin.

John’s marriage to Donna Lewandowski was January 20, 1962, in Dearborn.

John worked for Chrysler Corporation for over 30 years before his retirement in January of 2004. He was a member of St. John’s the Evangelist Catholic Church, Allenton. He was a lifetime member of Imlay City Knights of Columbus and the Berville Lions Club. He enjoyed fishing, golf, and deer hunting. John was very handy around the house, and there wasn’t anything he couldn’t repair.

John is survived by his beloved wife Donna of 63 years; his children, Ed (late Linda Blanton), Carolyn (late William) Gentz and Jim (Donna). He’s also survived by his sister, Carol and his brother, Boyd. He leaves behind 8 grandchildren, Erica (Gerry), Dana (Troy), Danielle (Brian), Brian (Tara), James “J.J.” (Samantha), Cayla (Joshua), Kelsey (Zach), and Alisha; two step-grandchildren, Dennis and Jennifer.

Furthermore, he leaves behind 11 great-grandchildren, Jayce, Jaxon, Ava, Aubree, Ryla, Rogan, Logan, Levi, Maisyn, Brinley, and Braya and two step-great-grandchildren, Caleb and Brian.

John was predeceased by his grandson, Adam, and his sister, Betty.

A special thanks to his daughter and granddaughters for their unwavering hospice care in his final days.

The family honors the memory of John and invites you to visit and share memories Wednesday, May 21, 2025, from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Kaatz Funeral Directors, Capac. Funeral services will be at St. John’s the Evangelist Catholic Church, Allenton, at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, May 22, with 9:30 a.m. visitation. Fr. Tom Kuehnemund will officiate. Burial will be in East Berlin Cemetery, Berlin Township.
