Joyce Gertrude Carter, 84

Joyce Gertrude Carter, age 84, passed away March 21, 2025 surrounded by her family. She was born October, 23, 1940 in Pontiac, the daughter of Earl and Iris (Middleton) Bailey. She graduated from Mayville High School in 1959. She married her beloved husband James Edward Carter, Sr. on September 5, 1959 at St. Luke’s Church in Detroit. She worked as a mail carrier in Detroit until she and her husband built a house in Utica where she continued to work and retired from United Postal Service after 30 years. Most of all, she loved entertaining and spending time with her family and friends at her pool.
Joyce is survived by her beloved children James (Theresa) Carter, Jr. of Goodrich, Janice (John) Schwartz of North Carolina, and Jeffrey (Nancy) Carter, Sr. of Utica; daughter-in-law Theresa Carter, of Imlay City; loving grandchildren James Carter, III, JoAnne (Steven) Foret, Kimberly (Troy) Enright, Thomas Carter, Joyce (James) Hull, John (Rebekah) Schwartz, Jennifer (Kyler) Clodfelter, Jeffrey (Sarah) Carter, Jr., Geralyn (Bryce) Grumley, Jerome Carter, Jr., Heather (Russell) Modell, Holly (Marcus) Fields, Cassandra (Johnathon) Smith; and 20 beloved Great Grandchildren. Also surviving are her siblings Shirley (David) Dickie, Sr. and Earl (Vicky) Bailey Jr.
She was preceded in death by her husband James E. Carter, Sr. in 2006, her son Jerome Carter, Sr. and grandson Christopher Schwartz.
Celebration of Life Service to be held on Wednesday, March 26 at 11 a.m. at Muir Funeral Home & Celebration of Life Center, 2650 S. Van Dyke, Imlay City, MI 48444. Burial will follow at West Berlin Cemetery in Almont, MI.
Memorial Donations can be made in Joyce’s name to the Humane Society.
