Helen Gilliland, age 91

Helen Gilliland, age 91, of Imlay City, Michigan died Saturday, November 9, 2024 at her home. Helen Marie Arnold was born July 11, 1933 in Fostoria, Ohio. She is the daughter of the late Earl and the late Agnes (Vogel) Arnold. Helen grew up in Fostoria, Ohio and graduated from Hopewell-Loudon High School in 1951. Helen married Jack Gilliland on July 10, 1952 in Detroit, Michigan. Helen and Jack had lived in Madison Heights until 1969 when they moved to Imlay City. Helen was preceded in death by Jack on July 9, 2005.
She was a farmer’s wife and worked as a homemaker in her home. Helen loved to crochet and bake cookies and breads. She always made sure everyone was fed. Her Christian Gift, truly was hospitality. Helen was a devoted Christian and follower of Jesus Christ. She was a member of Crossroads Baptist in Imlay City. The family wants to give a special thanks to Connie Sirois and Chris Gray for the care they gave their mother throughout her last days.
Helen is survived by: her daughters: Susan (Brian) Krohn of Lambertville, MI and Mary (David) McClaren of Memphis, MI; her sons: John (Sandy) Gilliland of Imlay City, MI and David (Ida) Gilliland of Imlay City, MI; and many brothers and sisters (she was one of fifteen children). She is also survived by: 12 grandchildren, 1 step grandson, 25 great-grandchildren, 5 step great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandson.
She was preceded in death by: her husband, John ‘Jack’ Gilliland; daughter, Diane (Robert) Goodwin; and her parents, Earl and Agnes Arnold.
The funeral services were held Monday, November 11, 2024 at Crossroads Baptist Church, 6835 Weyer Road, Imlay City, MI Reverend Jeff DuFour officiated. Interment followed at Goodland Township Cemetery, Imlay City.
Arrangements were entrusted to Muir Brothers Funeral Home of Imlay City, 225 N. Main St., Imlay City, MI 48444.
