James Allison Farley, 94

James Allison Farley, age 94, of Almont Township died Thursday, September 19, 2024, at his life-long home on Farley Road in Almont Township. James was born on July 14, 1930, in Almont, MI. He was the son of James Ronald Farley and Helen (Greene) Farley. James resided in his home in Almont his entire life apart from serving in the US Army in 1951 through 1953. He attended Rider Country School and graduated from Almont High School in 1948. He married Mary Elizabeth Avender, also of Almont Township, on October 13,1954, at St. John’s Church in Allenton,Michigan.

James grew up working on the family farm, and then was employed by Hamill Manufacturing in Romeo, Ml, before starting his career as a self-educated, machine cutting tool engineer at US Broach Company in Detroit, Ml for approximately 30 years,eventually in the capacity of Chief Engineer. He later operated his own private engineering consultancy, AI Farley Broach Engineering, retiring from the profession in 1992.

Throughout his long life, James enjoyed part-time farming, gardening, caring for his lawn, property, home, and tractors,and playing classical guitar. He also enjoyed riding motorcycles until the age of 84.

James is survived by his wife of almost 70 years, Mary Farley; children Jane (Jack) Quigley of Ortonville, MI, and Robert (Jeanette) Farley of Almont Township, Ml; grandchildren Niall (Amy) Farley of Port Huron MI, Lara (Joe Armstrong) Farley of Clarksville, TN, and Carolyn Quigley of Grand Rapids, Ml; great grandson Linden Farley.

James was preceded in death by his parents James and Helen Farley; brothers Don and Charles Farley, sisters Mary Lou Waskow and Lucille Bryce, as well and many brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.

Per James’ wishes there will be no funeral services. In lieu of gifts or flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the American Heart Association.
