Mary Jane Burger VanKuren, 85

Mary Jane Burger VanKuren, age 85, of Davison, Michigan died Friday, May 8, 2026 at her home. Mary Jane Brinker was born September 17, 1940 in Imlay City, MI. She is the daughter of the late Lawrence and the late Margaret Mable (Hannan) Brinker. Mary Jane grew up in Imlay City, Michigan. She was a graduate of Imlay City High School, Class of 1958. She lived much of her life in the Attica / Lum area.

Mary Jane married Daniel Burger on November 28, 1959. Daniel died on May 10, 2005. Mary Jane married Jack VanKuren on September 29, 2007. She and Jack lived in Davison, Michigan. Jack died on June 6, 2019. Jack is survived by his daughters: Diane (and Andreas) Etelkozi; and Debbie (and Chris) Honea; and 3 grandchildren.

Over the years Mary Jane had many roles. Even as a busy mom she had a few part time jobs including summer work at Bigelow’s Berry Farm, selling Mary Kay cosmetics, Best Western hotel, and volunteer work at Lapeer hospital. But Mary Jane’s true passion was her family, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and her church. She loved baking and cooking for the family. She also enjoyed traveling to Florida and all around the country.

Mary Jane is survived by her children: Diane (and Tom) Shannon of Davison, MI; Melanie (and David) Nienstedt of Lake Orion, MI; Daniel (and Sue) Burger of North Branch, MI; and Leanne (and David) Hill of Oxford, MI; sisters: Ruth Ann Thibodeau of North Branch, MI and Kathleen (and Bob) Jendry of Davison, MI; and sister-in-law, Jan Brinker of Davison, MI. Also surviving are her 16 grandchildren and her 37 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husbands: Daniel Burger and Jack VanKuren; brothers: Richard and his wife Judy Brinker, and Robert Brinker; sister: Donna Meyers; and brother-in-law: Robert Thibodeau.

Funeral services will be held 11:30 a.m. Saturday, May 16, 2026 at The Dwelling Assembly Of God, 5065 Coldwater Road, Lapeer, MI. Reverend Daniel Burger, pastor of Lapeer Assembly of God will be officiating. Burial will be in Arcadia Township Cemetery, Attica/Lum. The family will be available for visiting hours from 9:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. Saturday, May 16, 2026 at The Dwelling Assembly Of God, 5065 Coldwater Road, Lapeer, MI.
