Almont football stays undefeated with win over Yale
ALMONT — Almont came out on top of a 35-20 verdict over visiting Yale in a Blue Water Area Conference varsity football contest last Friday night.
With the result, Almont raises its mark to 4-0 and 3-0. Yale slips to 0-4 and 0-3.
In Friday’s contest, Almont took a 7-0 edge after one quarter was done and widened the gap to 28-7 at the half. When the action resumed, Almont picked up where it left off. Aided by a 7-0 third quarter advantage, the Raiders increased their cushion to 35-7 with 36 minutes gone.
Yale then put together a 13-0 fourth quarter rally, only to fall 35-20.
Almont produced their 35-point total thanks to a Brody Corneau 10-yard touchdown run (followed by an accurate extra point boot by Rian O’Neil); a Corneau 22-yard touchdown run (followed by a successful extra point kick courtesy of O’Neil); a Corneau 20-yard touchdown run (followed by an accurate extra point boot by O’Neil); a Corneau 64-yard touchdown run (followed by a successful extra point kick courtesy of O”Neil); and a Corneau nine-yard touchdown run (followed by an accurate extra point boot by O’Neil).
For the evening, Blake Lane completed two of three pass plays for 56 yards and no interceptions as Almont’s quarterback. His successful tosses went to Logan Schapman..
The Almont ground attack managed 374 yards on 37 totes. Individually, Corneau (12 rushes for 220 yards) and Ayden Battani (58 yards on seven totes) paced Almont. The remaining 18 Raider rushes netted a combined 96-yard gain.
Nicholas Bresinski (two solos and 13 assists) and Battani (four solos and nine assists) supplied the highest Almont tackle outputs. Schapman (three solos and six assists), Shepherd Moussiaux (seven assists), Corneau (three solos and three assists), Brock Murphy (two solos and four assists) and Max Glavich (five assists) made their presence felt as well. Almont’s defense also collected one takeaway on a Shane Roosa interception.
Almont will look to stay unbeaten when they travel to Imlay City (4-0, 3-0) this Friday for a BWAC showdown slated to get underway at 7 p.m.
