Almont rolls to victory over Richmond
ALMONT — The Almont varsity football team amassed three times as many points as visiting Richmond did, prevailing 42-14 in a Blue Water Area Conference game last Friday night.
With the decision, Almont improves to 3-0 and 2-0.Richmond falls to 0-3 and 0-2.
In Friday’s game, Almont bolted out to a 15-0 advantage after one quarter was over.
Quarter two saw Almont generate 14 points and Richmond matched that, leaving them up 29-14 at the half.
When the action resumed,Almont continued to pull away.Aided by a 7-0 third quarter edge, the Raiders increased their cushion to 36-14.
Almont then outscored Richmond 6-0 from that point on, assuring themselves of a 42-14 victory.
The winning Almont side produced their 42-point total aided by Brody Corneau 60-yard touchdown run (followed by a Colten Karbel PAT tote); a Blake Lane to Logan Schapman 21-yard touchdown pass (followed by a successful extra point kick courtesy of Rian O’Neil); an Ethan McConnell 65-yard touchdown run (followed by an accurate extra point boot by O’Neil); a Lane to Karbel four-yard touchdown pass (followed by a successful extra point kick courtesy of O’Neil); a Lane to Schapman 24-yard touchdown pass (followed by an accurate extra point boot by O’Neil); and a five-yard touchdown run by Corneau.
For the night, Lane completed eight of nine pass plays for 150 yards as Almont’s quarterback.He threw zero interceptions along the way.
His successful tosses were distributed to two different targets.Schapman (five catches for 125 yards) and Karbel (three receptions for 25 yards)formed that group.
The Almont ground attack wound up with 300 yards on 32 totes.
Individually, McConnell (eight rushes for 105 yards), Corneau (10totes for 91yards) and Karbel (six rushes for 71 yards) supplied Almont’s top rushing totals.The remaining eight Raider totes netted a combined 31-yard gain.
Shepherd Moussaiux (four solos and six assists), Karbel (three solos and six assists) and Schapman (six solos and two assists) posted Almont’s highest tackle totals.Ayden Battani (two solos and four assists) and Colin McKinney (one solo and four assists) made their presence felt as well. The Almont defense also registered one takeaway on a fumble recovery by Luke Longley.
Almont will look to continue their winning ways this Friday when it hosts Blue Water Area Conference counterpart Yale.
That matchup lists a 7 p.m. starting time.
