Capac falls on road to Mayville

CAPAC — Capac dropped a 42-0 verdict to host Mayville in a varsity football matchup last Thursday.

With the decision, Mayville evens its record at 1-1. Capac slips to 0-2 this season.

In Thursday’s clash, Capac spotted Mayville a 24-0 advantage at the half.

When the action resumed, Mayville continued to pull away. It was there they outscored Capac 18-0, closing out a 42-0 victory.

Capac will look to bounce back this Friday when Big Thumb Conference Gold Division rival Marlette pays a visit. That contest is slated to begin at 7 p.m.

Spartans fifth, Raiders sixth at jamboree

TRI-CITY AREA — The Imlay City and Almont girls’ golf squads placed fifth and sixth, respectively, at a Blue Water Area Conference Jamboree Monday, August 31 at Willow Tree Golf Course in Melvin.

Yale (201) paced the field assembled. They were followed by Armada (216), Richmond (229), Lutheran North (230), Imlay City (232), Almont (245) and North Branch (289).

Ava Shack led Imlay City with a 46. She was backed by McKinley Couzens (52), Alysssa Bruman (69) and Sara Belleville (77).

Eva Rayl paced Almont with a 53. Piper Steinhaus (62), Alivia Hanaford (75) and Vanessa Steinhaus (81) supported her performance.

Spartans run to eighth place

IMLAY CITY — The Imlay City boys’ cross country team pulled up eighth among medium division schools at the Corunna Early Bird Invitational on Tuesday, Sept. 1. 

Sebastian Hoult, 41st, 21:14.79; led Imlay City that day. The Spartans also counted results from Mason Russell, 42nd, 21:17.59; Will Cilk, 66th, 22:53.76; Liam Bhatti, 77th, 24:19.83; and Jared Pratt, 88th, 27:55.87.
