Imlay City football program equals best start since 1993

IMLAY CITY — The Imlay City varsity football team has equaled its best start since the 1993 campaign, accomplishing the feat with a 22-0 triumph against host Cros-Lex in a Blue Water Area Conference encounter last Friday night.

With the outcome, Imlay City moves to 3-0 and 2-0. Cros-Lex slips to 0-3 and 0-2.

In Friday’s encounter, Imlay City and Cros-Lex ended the initial quarter with zero points each.

Imlay City then used a 7-0 second quarter edge and a 15-0 third quarter advantage to build a commanding 22-0 cushion. Neither side would score the rest of the way as Imlay City held on for the win.

Imlay City generated their winning 22-point total aided on a Daniel Rojas one-yard touchdown run (followed by a successful extra point kick courtesy of Max Galiana; a Brady Homer two-yard touchdown run (followed by an accurate extra point boot from Galiana); and a Brady Homer six-yard touchdown run (followed by a Brett Lestage to Henry Schmidt PAT pass collaboration).

Brady Homer (no interceptions) completed two of 15 pass plays for 13 yards as Imlay City’s quarterback. His successful tosses went to two different targets. Their ranks consisted of Trystan Whiting (one catch for 10 yards) and Lestage (one reception for three yards).

The Imlay City ground attack managed 215 yards on 33 totes. Rojas (17 rushes for 154 yards). Brady Homer (33 yards on 10 totes), and Lestage (six rushes for 28 yards) made that output possible. Bryce Homer (10) registered the highest Imlay City tackle output. Rojas (eight stops) plus Jackson Hill, Brayden Cremeans and Brady Homer (six tackles each) made their presence felt as well.

Imlay City will look to keep their perfect record intact this Friday when Blue Water Area Conference rival North Branch pays a visit.

That battle is slated to get underway at 7 p.m.
