Thomas Joseph Baker, 94

Thomas Joseph Baker, age 94, a longtime resident of Almont, passed away peacefully on June 27, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born on May 27, 1932, in Detroit, Michigan, the son of Joseph and Margaret (Huhm) Baker. Tom graduated from St. Augustine High School in 1949, where he proudly played center on the football team. His love of the game stayed with him throughout his life, and he enjoyed teaching his sons and grandsons how to play football.

On October 13, 1951, Tom married the love of his life, Victoria Jasinski, in Angola, Indiana. Together they recently celebrated an incredible 74 years of marriage. For more than 40 years, they were faithful members of St. John the Evangelist Church in Allenton. Their compassion for others led them to serve as interim foster parents for more than 30 children through Catholic Social Services, opening both their hearts and home to those in need.

Tom worked as a master machinist at Lasell Machine Tool for 40 years, where he earned the respect of coworkers through his dedication and craftsmanship. A gifted woodworker, he generously helped each of his children build their own homes, leaving behind not only his workmanship but a lasting legacy of love and support.

He had a passion for classic automobiles and proudly owned a 1937 Chevrolet, enjoying time with fellow members of his classic car club. Tom also loved the outdoors, whether he was camping, tending to his garden or simply enjoying nature. He had a sweet tooth, loved to bake and was always ready to share a homemade treat.

Tom was known for his warm personality, beautiful smile and the gift of conversation. He always had a story to tell and never met a stranger. He and Victoria especially enjoyed dancing together throughout the years. Above all else, Tom cherished every moment spent with his family, who were the center of his life.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Victoria Baker; his loving children, Tom (Marie) Baker of Wisconsin, John (Michelle) Baker of Richmond, Mike (Karna) Baker of Indiana, Dave (Shelly) Baker of Almont, Chris (Teresa) Baker of Almont, and Mary (Steve) Adamczak of Imlay City; his cherished grandchildren: Julie, Kristie, Laura, Becky, Tom, Bethany, Timmy, Ben, Reuben, Joey, Gloria, Thomas, Kellie, Tanya, Nick, Rachelle, Jamie, Hanna, Melissa, Colleen and Stephen; and his treasured great-grandchildren Alaina, Ryan, Kayla, Jordon, Ashley, David, Dakota, Ophelia, Emberson, Felix, Cora, Kadence, Lilly, Roslyn, Leeilah, Zack, Jacob, Thorsten, Helio, and Kaylen. He is also survived by his sister, Joan Laskey; his brother, Frank (Diane) Baker; and his faithful cat, Poppy.

Tom was preceded in death by his beloved children, Tim and Elizabeth Baker, and by his siblings, Rosemary Dircks and James Baker.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Muir Funeral Home & Celebration of Life Center, 2650 South Van Dyke Road, Imlay City, Michigan 48444. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home.

Following a luncheon, Tom will be laid to rest at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Dryden.

Memorial donations may be made in Thomas's memory to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
