Leonard Ziegenmeyer, 98

Leonard Ziegenmeyer, age 98, of Imlay City, Michigan died Saturday, August 2, 2025 at Stonegate Health Campus, Lapeer, Michigan. Leonard George Ziegenmeyer was born January 7, 1927 in St. Louis, Missouri. He is the son of the late Herman Ziegenmeyer and the late Ethel (Jackson) Ziegenmeyer. Leonard grew up in St. Louis, Missouri. He was a graduate of Central High School in St. Louis, Missouri, Class of 1944. After high school, Leonard went directly into the U. S. Army. He attended William Jewell College in Liberty, Missouri. Leonard married Mary Matthews on March 1, 1951 at Pocahontas, Arkansas.

After serving in the Army, they moved to Rochester, Michigan in the early 1950’s and then to Lapeer County. He has lived in the Imlay City area since 1995 (30+ years). Leonard was a Clerk for many years at both the Chrysler Motors Corp. Technical Center in Highland Park and Auburn Hills.

He was a Scout Master of Troop 123 for 50 years in the Rochester Hills area. Leonard was very, very involved in bicycle riding: he rode the: PALM, DALMAC, Jalapeno 100, Hancock Horizontal Hundred, From Hell to Paradise, and was a member Slow-Spokes Bicycle Club, The Oakland Co. Bicycle Club, and Bentsen Grove Bicycle Club.

Leonard is survived by: his daughters, Samantha (Bud) Cheney of Imlay City, MI and Mary (Michael) Ogden of Palmview, TX; sons, George Ziegenmeyer of Imlay City, MI and Karl (Karen) Ziegenmeyer of Lapeer, MI. Also surviving are: his grandchildren, Shannon (Andrew), Elizabeth (Jacob), Heather (John), Heidi (Moctezuma), Lucas (Sarah), Catrina (Dillon), Kaitlin (Greg), and Elijah; and eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by: his wife, Mary Ziegenmeyer; son, Edward Ziegenmeyer; and his sisters, Ruth Lewis (age 99) and an infant, Helen Frances.

The funeral will be held 11:00 a.m., Monday, August 11, 2025 at Crossroads Baptist Church, 6835 Weyer Road, Imlay City, MI with Rev. Jeff DuFour officiating.

The family will be available for visitation 10-11 a.m., Monday, August 11th at Crossroads Baptist Church. Burial will be in Goodland Township Cemetery, Imlay City.
