Former Capac doctor pleads guilty

Facing 15 years in federal prison

 

CAPAC — After a lengthy legal battle, a former Capac doctor found out his fate last Thursday, after pleading guilty to what federal officials say was distribution of thousands of images of child pornography.

Officials say some of the images included the sexual exploitation and abuse of young children.

Robert Glapinski, 62, of Capac, was sentenced to 15 years in a federal prison, following his plea. United States District Judge Linda V. Parker from Detroit handed down the sentencing.

It was reported in the Tri-City Times on April 9, 2025 Glapinski, who is affiliated with Corewell Health Beaumont Hospital in Troy, was booked into the St. Clair County jail after authorities conducted a search of his home that turned up key evidence.

Dr. Robert Charles Glapinski, DO, had provided medical services to multiple Capac residents and their family members.

Residents spoke amongst each other, sharing their disbelief of allegations against the doctor who provided services to so many of those who were caught off guard by the arrest.

Authorities stated the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children were notified via a cyber tip on March 5 of this year, citing Google as receiving a cyber tip that a user had child pornography in a Google Chat.

An investigation in-to the matter showed Glapinski to be that user, according to court records. Glapinski was a family medicine doctor who treated both adults and children.

Investigators say they found chats where the doctor talked about sexually abusing female children and sharing child pornography.

During the execution of the search warrant at his home, authorities say Glapinski was present and admitted to viewing, receiving and possessing child pornography.

Examination of Glapinski’s electronic items found over 2,500 images and more than 150 videos of child sexually abusive material.

According to one website detailing himself and his practice, Glapinski operated, “a family medicine doctor office in Capac, Michigan and is affiliated with multiple hospitals in the area, including Corewell Health Beaumont Troy Hospital and Henry Ford Macomb Hospital. He received his medical degree from University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine and has been in practice for more than 20 years. Dr. Glapinski has expertise in treating asthma, aneurysm, hypertension, among other conditions – see all areas of expertise. Dr. Robert C. Glapinski is highly recommended by patients.”

The website went on to add, “Family medicine doctors, also known as primary care physicians or PCPs, are trained to meet the basic health needs of children and adults.”

According to Glapinski’s bio, Primary Care Physicians often refer patients to specialists or for further testing, and they treat common conditions such as diabetes, high cholesterol and allergies. They also perform physicals, give vaccines and may do some in-office lab testing.

An owner of a daycare next to the doctor’s office was shocked and mortified when learning of the arrest of the doctor saying on social media, “He was just my landlord and had no contact with our children at any time.”

Glapinski had received numerous five and four star ratings for his work with patients, many of whom had no idea of the alleged events happening.

A report by Detroit media said the doctor admitted to some of the accusations when interviewed by police, including situations allegedly involving his own daughters.

Many Capac residents spoke of going to the doctor for various ailments over the years, while also taking their own children to the same medical office.
