Goodland Township Supervisor resigns

Gives two week notice; no reasons

GOODLAND TWP. — Following months of turmoil at township meetings, including some personal attacks, Township Supervisor Mike Eckardt handed in a two-week notice of his intent to resign from his position. The action came during the most recent township meeting on July 6.

Eckardt was voted in to office in the fall of 2024, replacing longtime Supervisor Ron Ciske. Eckardt was one of several new faces on the board at the time.

In his letter to the township board dated July 6, Eckardt said, “Dear members of the board, please accept this letter as my formal resignation from the position as Township Supervisor for Goodland Township, effective July 21.”

“Serving the residents of Goodland Township has been an honor and privilege. I appreciate the opportunity to work alongside the employees, volunteers and members of the community to address township business and serve the public.”

He went on to say, “I am committed to assisting with an orderly transition before my departure and will make every effort to ensure township matters are transferred appropriately.”

“Thank you for the opportunity to serve the residents of Goodland Township. I wish the township continued success in the future. Sincerely, Mike Eckardt, Township Supervisor.”

Eckardt and some board members had been at odds in recent meetings, including Trustees Julie Dockham and Michael Puzzoli, questioning how meetings were run and the amount of time meeting attendees were given during public comment time on the agenda.

Puzzoli and Eckardt have also sparred over blight issues within the township, sharing differing opinions.
