Studio E open for business; owners plan weekend classes

IMLAY CITY — Imlay City’s newest business held a ribbon cutting ceremony last Friday at the site of Studio E at 150 Bancroft St. The building was previously owned by the Imlay City Downtown Development Authority.

The new owners, Dee and Charles Jackson, are thrilled to have a small business in town, after starting their stained glass business in their home and later moving to a garage.

Dee said, “I have been doing this since my mother taught me at a very young age. It started out just as a hobby and the longer I worked on the craft, I knew some day, I’d like to have my own business.”

The Jacksons travel to various arts and craft shows and were part of SummerFest in Imlay City a year ago.

Dee’s husband, Charles, said he is always on the lookout for glass stock.

“I keep an eye on Facebook Marketplace, go to estate sales, that sort of thing,” he said. “Anywhere I can get my hands on glass at a reasonable price.”

Dee said along with making various stained glass projects on her own, she intends to conduct classes at the Bancroft St. location.

“It doesn’t matter your skill level, we want to introduce people to the craft and give them a chance to see what they can do. Stained glass is very relaxing to us. We enjoy it.”
