Borland Time Capsule: 25 Years in the Making!

IMLAY CITY — The countdown is on! After 25 years of curiosity, mystery and anticipation, Borland Elementary School is finally opening its long-buried time capsule. In the year 2000, members of the Borland community gathered to place mementos of their lives and times into the ground, marking the spot with a plaque that has sparked wonder ever since. Now, the wait is almost over – on Friday, September 26, the capsule will be unearthed and the treasures inside revealed!

During the school day, Borland students and staff will get the first peek, diving into history as they examine artifacts from a quarter-century ago. Activities are planned to help students connect the past with the present and imagine what life was like when the capsule was sealed.

But the excitement doesn’t stop there -Borland is inviting the entire community to be part of this historic moment. Doors will be open to the public on Friday, September 26, from 3:45-5:00 p.m., just before the IC Homecoming Parade. Visitors can view all of the time capsule’s contents and share in the excitement of discovery.
Afterward, the items will move to the Ruth Hughes Memorial District Library in Imlay City, where they’ll remain on display for everyone to enjoy during regular library hours.
