Motorists to seek alternate routes around Newark during culvert replacements

From Newark to Lake Pleasant; 13 new culverts

 

IMLAY TWP. — Orange construction barrels, as much a part of Michigan summer’s as Vernors, Kogel hotdogs and Tiger baseball, have sprouted a new crop and now are lining the landscape southwest of Imlay City.

Lapeer County Road Commission officials announced the new closing that took effect Monday.

Motorists will have to seek an alternate route if they are traveling Newark Rd. west towards Attica.

Road Commission officials say starting Monday, August 11, Newark Road will be closed to thru traffic for essential culvert work.

Work is planned to take place along a four-mile stretch from Lake Pleasant Road to the edge of the Imlay City city limits at Blacks Corners Road.

Crews will be installing approximately 13 cross culverts on the roadway to improve long-term drainage and road durability.

The road commission has listed alternate routes that include using I-69 or Imlay City Road, during the closure.

The road commission says they appreciate the patience of motorists as they work to improve the county’s road infrastructure.

Road Commission officials did not return phone call messages from the Tri-City Times, to give more information, including costs and length of project.

Motorists are advised to please plan ahead and drive safely near work zones!
