Thanksgiving is about worship; an act of love

Editor’s note: The following submission was received too late for our front page Thanksgiving story, but we still wanted to share the thoughts of the author. Our thanks to Lisa Super for sharing her thoughts on the holiday.

Dear Editor,

Thanksgiving to me is simple: Faith, Family, Food, Fellowship, all interwoven with Thanksgiving!

Two recent things that come readily to my mind about Thanksgiving,

I am teaching a Biblical Citizenship class for homeschoolers right now and in that curriculum, we talk about the Pilgrims and all that they meant for the founding foundation of our country.

And, of course, people feel that the first Thanksgiving was probably in 1621 when the Pilgrims in Plymouth shared harvest with the Wampanoag people.

They incorporated Thanksgiving to God for all their blessings in the midst of so many hardships!

Today we face our own hardships and trials. I know some that are struggling through some very hard things. What amazes me is that instead of having bitterness or resentment, that they choose gratitude and Thanksgiving as they go forward!

They choose to reflect on the blessings that they do have! I am praying for each and every one of them that circumstances will change or that God will give them the strength and provision to get through it!

Also, since September we are studying the Book of Revelation in Bible Study Fellowship.

So far what I am getting from this very beautiful part of The Bible is complete worship and thankfulness to our Lord!

So many verses about Thanksgiving that I could share right now, but I will settle on Revelation 7:11-12 “They fell down on their faces before the throne and worshipped God, saying: Amen! Praise and glory and wisdom and Thanksgiving and honor and power and might be to our God forever and ever! Amen!” Thanksgiving is about worship! It is an act of love, honoring God.

Thanksgiving is so very important and special to my heart. I’m thankful we have a day on our calendar centered around Thanksgiving!

I am hoping that every day we can go forward with Thanksgiving; I know someday we will!!
