M-53 and Newark Rd. site of another crash

Vehicle pulls into path of pickup

IMLAY CITY — Law enforcement, EMS and fire personnel continue to stay busy responding to crashes along M-53/S. Cedar St. between Newark Rd. north to the railroad overpass.

The latest incident, over last week, involving two Imlay City drivers, one of which was a 17 year old.

According to the Imlay City Police Department, officers responded to the intersection of Newark and M-53 for a report of a two-vehicle collision on August 1.

Officers say a 2006 Jeep Liberty, driven by a 17-year-old female from Imlay City was driving north on M-53 and came to the stoplight at Newark Rd.

The second vehicle, a 2005 Dodge Dakota driven by a 57-year-old male also from Imlay City was traveling south on M-53.

Officers say the man was traveling southbound on Cedar Street, “through the intersection of Newark Road. Driver 1 (the female) was northbound on Cedar Street, at Newark Road, in the left-hand turn lane. Driver 1 was turning left onto westbound Newark Road and failed to yield to oncoming traffic.”

The pickup truck made contact with the right rear of the teenager’s car causing what police called “functional damage” to both vehicles.

The Imlay City Fire Department and Lapeer County EMS responded to the location, and all parties refused medical treatment.
A second police incident involved what they called “accidental damage” on Saturday. Police say the owner of an F-150 pickup truck came out of Kroger and while in the parking lot, he discovered scratches on the truck. However, police say the scratches didn’t look fresh and the driver stated they were at Great Lakes Crossing earlier the same day, and it could have occurred there. The damage was not discovered until the Imlay City stop.
Police also remind everyone they are having a “Meet the ICPD Officers” Saturday in the garage from 1-3 p.m. during Summer Fest. Free snow cones and popcorn will be handed out to visitors!!
