Two-alarm fire damages Almont Twp. home

GoFundMe established to help family recover losses

 

ALMONT TWP. — The community is rallying around an Almont Twp. family after their home sustained heavy damage as a result of a fire Saturday evening.

The Almont Fire Department responded to the residential dwelling Saturday on Shoemaker Rd, just west of M-53.

Kristy Maxlow, a family friend, wasted no time jumping in to action by establishing a GoFundMe account.

She wrote, “Last night (Saturday), a family in our little town of Almont had a devastating fire occur in their home. Most of you know the Klines (Ryan, Chris, Katrina, Molly, Jenna, and Ben). Wonderful people who are active in this community and would help out anyone else in need, no questions asked.”

Maxlow said the GoFundMe was started with the Kline’s approval.

“The majority of the damage took out Jenna and Molly’s bedroom, right next to Katrina’s room, along with negatively affecting the rest of the house,” Maxlow said in the Facebook post.

In an update on her original posting on the GoFundMe account, Maxlow said, “Thank you to everyone who has donated on this GoFundMe to help the Klines. The response has been amazing. They will receive those funds ASAP. And thank you Sara and Isabel Betker, Sofia Kenny, Siobhan Abitheira, Jessie Hettinger, and Mrs. Miramonti for the porch donations. They have all been dropped off this evening.”

Almont Fire Chief Don Smith said the home is a single family home and the fire originated in an upstairs bedroom. He said the cause is undetermined and still under investigation.

“The family is unable to occupy the home,” Smith said. “There is heavy water and smoke damage.”

Almont was assisted by the Dryden Twp. Fire Department. No injuries were reported.
