Imlay City tennis rolls past Armada

IMLAY CITY — Imlay City handed visiting Armada an 8-0 setback in a Blue Water Area Conference boys’ tennis meeting on Tuesday, Aug. 25. 

In individual action, Levi Lengemann earned a 6-1, 6-4 top flight win against Colin Hill; Griffin Wetzel secured a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Tyler Rowe at second singles; Drew Schriber obtained a 6-1, 6-1 third flight triumph against Nate Blake; and Joey Nerkowski registered a 6-0, 6-0 win over Brady Wessel at fourth singles.

As far as doubles play was concerned, Jeremy Alter and Trace Dennis posted a 6-4, 6-2 top flight victory against Tucker Langtry and James Schommer; plus Isaac Lindquist and Tristin Detwiler generated a 6-4, 6-2 triumph over Brandon Skurda and Chris Simon.

Max Guerin and Pierce Murray (third doubles) along with Sal Fontana and Jeremy Schroeder (fourth doubles) added wins by default to Imlay City’s cause.

Two days later, Imlay City fell 8-0 to visiting St. Clair in a non-league boys’ tennis clash. As far as individual action was concerned, Levi Lengemann dropped a 3-6, 1-6 top flight verdict; Griffin Wetzel  fell 4-6, 6-7 at second singles; Drew Schriber dropped an 0-6, 2-6 third flight verdict; and Joey Nerkowski fell 2-6, 1-6 at fourth singles.

In doubles play, Trace Dennis and Jeremy Alter incurred an 0-6, 0-6 top flight setback; Isaac Lindquist and Tristin Detwiler fell 0-6, 0-6 at second doubles; Max Guerin and Pierce Murray dropped an 0-6, 0-6 third flight verdict; plus Clark DeClean and Sal Fontana fell 3-6, 1-6 at fourth doubles.

Almont tennis picks up pair of victories

ALMONT — The Almont boys’ tennis team picked up a pair of victories this past week. 

Almont opened their two-match stretch with a 6-2 win against visiting Yale in Blue Water Area Conference battle on Tuesday, August 25

In individual play, Eric Brown posted a 5-7, 6-3, 6-2 top flight win against Emmett Verhelle; Austin Machiniak netted a 3-6, 6-4, 6-1 victory over Cole Hackett at second singles; Ethan Stacer obtained a 6-0, 6-0 third flight triumph against Wyatt Kavanagh; and Carsen Cooper claimed a 6-3, 6-3 win over Lucas Fox at fourth singles.

As far as doubles play was concerned, Michael Stacer and Collin Decoster fell by a 7-6, 4-6, 10-12 top flight count to Landon Martel and Grayden Cowhy; Eli Bishop and Blake Boyer notched a 6-0, 4-6, 6-2 victory against Connor McClelland and Emerson Verhelle at second doubles; Ayden Ferrett and Ty Bradley registered a 5-7, 6-4, 6-0 third flight triumph. Yale’s team of Aiden Ridley and Brody Jacobson won the fourth doubles match by default.

The following day saw Almont earn a 4-3 road victory over non-league counterpart Clawson. 

A group consisting of Eric Brown, Ethan Stacer and Carsen Cooper provided Almont with individual flight triumphs that day. Brown notched a 6-4, 6-3 top flight win; Stacer secured a 6-0, 6-0 victory at third singles; and Cooper registered a 6-0, 6-0 fourth flight triumph. Marc Samona and Ty Bradley added a win by default for Almont at fourth doubles.
