Imlay City starts season with a victory
IMLAY CITY— The Imlay City varsity football squad pulled out a 14-7 road victory over Flint Powers in a non-league encounter last Thursday.
With the decision, Imlay City improves to 1-0 overall. Flint Powers slips to 0-1 this season.
In Thursday’s encounter, neither side scored during quarter number one and Imlay City took a 6-0 edge at the half. That was followed by a scoreless third quarter. Imlay City then outscored Flint Powers 8-7 the rest of the way, assuring themselves of a 14-7 triumph at night’s end.
The winning Imlay City side produced their 14-point total aided by a Brady Homer three-yard touchdown; and a Brett Lestage 97-yard kickoff return (followed by a Homer PAT tote).
On the night, Homer completed six of 14 pass plays for 68 yards as Imlay City’s quarterback. He threw one interception en route. His accurate tosses were hauled in by four different targets. Jovani Pena (two catches for 29 yards), Trystan Whiting (two receptions for 25 yards), Lestage( one catch for 12 yards) and Henry Schmidt (one reception for two yards) formed that group.
The Imlay City ground attack managed 134 yards on 35 totes. Individually, Homer (17 rushes for 69 yards) and Danny Rojas (56 yards on 15 totes) posted Imlay City’s best numbers. The remaining three Spartan rushes netted a combined nine-yard gain. Homer (six) and Jackson Hill (five) registered the highest Imlay City tackle outputs. Lestage and Homer added an interception each to Imlay City’s cause.
Imlay City will look to make it two wins in as many starts when it travels to Richmond this Thursday. The Blue Water Area Conference clash is slated to get underway at 7 p.m.
