Senator Daley goes to school

Students learn about government process

 

IMLAY CITY — Students at Imlay City Christian School had a treat last Friday when they had a classroom visit from a Michigan politician who hails from Lapeer County.

ICCS instructor Beth Van Dyke said the students were excited to have the special guest speak to them, teaching about state government.

Students filled in information on a worksheet prepared for them, outlining the various steps of State government.

While speaking with the students, Sen. Daley explained what a typical day in Lansing might look like. He detailed the process of creating a bill and the various committees it must move through before becoming law.

Sen. Kevin Daley is a fifth-generation Lapeer County farmer, a lifetime resident of the district, and the state senator for 26th District, which encompasses portions of Lapeer, Tuscola, Genesee and Saginaw counties.

Daley, born and raised in Lum, began his career in public service as a member of the Arcadia Township planning commission. He went on to serve in the positions of trustee, treasurer, and eventually, township supervisor.

He was first elected to the Michigan House of Representatives in 2008 and represented Lapeer County in the 82nd District until 2014.

As the only active farmer in the House of Representatives at the time, Daley was chosen to serve as chairman of the House Agriculture Committee.

In 2018 he was elected to represent the 31st State Senate District, which included Bay, Lapeer and Tuscola Counties. There, Daley was once again chosen to help improve Michigan’s agricultural industry, being selected as chairman of the Senate Agriculture Committee.

Sen. Daley continues to be committed to helping create a healthy economy, investing in skilled trades training and protecting our hometown family values. The senator is very active in the community and a member of several volunteer organizations.

Sen. Daley lives in Lapeer County with his wife Debbie, a retired elementary school teacher. They have been married for nearly 50 years and together, they have three children and eight grandchildren who they love to spend time with as much as possible.
