Imlay City students help pack meals

Take part in “Feed My Starving Children” program

 

 

IMLAY TWP. — Friday, students from Imlay City high school made the short trip to Van Dyk Farms to volunteer to pack food for a program called ‘Feed My Starving Children.” At the end of their shifts, not only did the students meet the goal they set for themselves, they exceeded it!

According to organizers, in all, 477 volunteers of community members from Lapeer County and beyond helped to fight world hunger through a partnership between Van Dyk Farms and nonprofit Feed My Starving Children (FMSC).

Volunteers made a difference by packing 101,088 meals with their own two hands in just 2 days at Van Dyk Farms in Imlay Twp. Community members supported this MobilePack event by making donations to cover meal costs (over $30,0000 was raised!) and by volunteering to package food at the event.

Over the course of two days, volunteers gathered at the FIRST EVE FMSC MobilePack hosted inside of a lettuce cooler. The space was warmed and transformed into an FDA-approved food-packing facility.

Volunteers (including 150 Imlay City High School students and staff, multiple sports teams, the Goodland Township Fire Department, and people from all walks of life) packed 468 boxes (equal to 101,088 meals) of MannaPack Rice, which will feed 276 children for an entire year! Because of this community, that equates to 276 children who will forget the pain of an empty belly, who will have hope and a future.

Feed My Starving Children (FMSC) believes hope starts with food. As a Christian nonprofit, FMSC is dedicated to seeing every child whole in body and spirit.

FMSC meals are packed primarily by volunteers, then sent to a network of partner organizations that stay with communities for the long haul, empowering them to move from relief to development.

Churches, businesses, community groups and schools host these food-packing events and make a real difference in the fight against world hunger. Every year, millions of children die from preventable causes such as pneumonia, diarrhea, malaria and undernutrition. Hunger is still causing nearly half of deaths in children under 5 years old. From this data, it’s estimated at least 6,200 children die each day from causes related to undernutrition, which is heartbreaking.

FMSC consistently receives the highest awards for accountability and transparency, with more than 90 percent of total donations dedicated directly toward feeding kids in need.
