Almont Supt. resignation submitted; effective end of school year

District will begin process to find replacement

 

ALMONT — The Almont school district is in the market for a new Superintendent, following news that broke late last week.

Supt. Kimberly VonHiltmayer sent a letter to parents in the district, notifying them her last day as the district’s Superintendent will be June 30, 2026.

During her tenure, VonHiltmayer led the charge of trying to improve the district with a millage request. A second request was also turned down by Almont voters.

Despite the rejections of millage requests, the long-tenured district employee worked with staff to make Almont the best it could be, given what finances with which they had to work.

VonHiltmayer, who has served the district in several capacities for over three decades, first stepped in as Interim Superintendent, following the departure of William Kalmar.

She wasted no time jumping in feet first, working with the school board and staff members to come up with a millage proposal addressing needs in all of the district’s facilities.

Most recently, the district spent roughly $1 million in improvements throughout the district. As part of that investment, the school’s track saw major repairs for the first time in decades.

Below is VonHiltmayer’s letter explaining her decision.

Dear Almont Community Schools Families:

As we approach the holiday break, I would like to extend my warmest wishes to you and your families for a joyful and restful season.

I hope this time provides opportunities for reflection, connection, and renewal, and I wish you a healthy and Happy New Year.

I am writing to share that I have made the decision to resign from my position as Superintendent of Almont Community Schools, effective June 30, 2026.

This decision was made thoughtfully and with great care, as I consider the next chapter of my personal and professional life.

I am deeply grateful for the support and partnership of our families and community throughout my 31+ years in education and my time serving Almont.

It has been an honor to work alongside our dedicated staff and families to support the success, well-being, and growth of our students.

Please know that I remain fully committed to Almont Community Schools through the remainder of my tenure and to ensuring continued stability and focus on what matters most—our students.
