Outstanding display for democracy

Dear Editor,

The “No King March” was an outstanding display of love for our democracy. Some think it was miss- named. I agree. I think “No dictator” would have been more appropriate. When a man begins to believe his lies, he is dangerous. Historically there are benevolent kings, few benevolent dictators, and no benevolent tyrants. Do you think Trump would be a vindictive dictator? His style of governing seems to follow techniques found in the “Wan-A-Be: dictators handbook.” I Listed a few examples.

• Disband the Board of Education; it’s easier to control a poorly educated population than a well-educated society. We were 16th in the world the last time our felon and chief took office.

• Remove all highly qualified military officers who have sworn to defend our Constitution and our freedoms. Replace them with lessor qualified “yes” men whose only goal in life is to suck-up to a dictator.

• Introduce the military into our cities under trumped-up excuses for protecting our citizens. Getting citizens accustomed to military presence on their streets is essential to reduce confrontations when installing a dictatorship.

• Shut down dissenting news from broad- castors, commentators, and networks, in an effort to control news and its dissemination to the population.

• Alienate your allies, isolating your country and its population.

• A picture I can’t get out of my mind is three ICE agents wearing masks, full combatgear carrying automatic weapons chasing one old migrant strawberry picker across a strawberry field. Do you think the old man was using the pickers job as a cover, when in fact he is the leader of a multi-million-dollar drug ring? That looked like a news clip from Natzi Germany. If you were ashamed of what you did for a living would you wear a mask too?

Do any of these points from the Dictators handbook sound familiar? Our Democracy is the longest lived one in history. Millions of Americans have fought and died defending it during those 250 years. Our grandparents worked tirelessly through rationing and shortages of almost everything for years, building the machinery of war, conquering two world powers, simultaneously during World War 2. It would be sad if we have let this democracy die at the ballot box.

But there is an upside to dictatorship; Dictators don’t need a congress to help govern. Congress would be disbanded, the good guys and bad. They would no longer receive their fat pay checks, fat pensions, world class health care, access to insider trading information. In addition, lobbyist gifts, as well as taking any unused campaign contributions when leaving office.

Our felon and chief told us many times that he is the best, greatest president America ever had. A convicted felon who was convicted on 30 plus counts wouldn’t lie to us. The Supreme Court granted him immunity while in office; that’s a show of confidence on their part. The next three years will be interesting. Our Felon and Chief said his big beautiful 1000-page bill will help lift all of us.
