Little Miss Pageant this Saturday

The Imlay City Summer Fest has had many names over the years. It started out in 1977 as the Blueberry-Vegetable Festival, and then changed to just The Blueberry Festival. After 37 years the name was changed again, to the Michigan Busker Festival, and then in 2022 was once again renamed, The Imlay City Summer Fest. In all of these name changes over the course of decades, two things remained the same.

The first being that the organizers wanted to bring something fun and exciting to our community every year. A festival that could grow with the times and evolve and be a festival for everyone.

The second is the Little Miss Pageant. The Little Miss Pageant started in 1984 with Pam Brannon, Editor of the Tri-City Times. Lorraine Filer and family continued it after Pam left.

The Little Miss Pageant is designed to showcase the girls’ talents and strengths and help build a positive self-confidence. They work very hard to perfect dance routines and answer questions to the best of their ability. They expanded their pageant to include the junior age group 3 years ago.

The Little Miss has been a staple in our festival from almost the start of our over 40 year old festival. Our name may have changed a few times and our parade may have been known as the Salad Bowl once or twice, but at the heart of The Imlay City Summer Fest, we are the same as we have always been, since 1977!

We encourage you to attend this year’s Little/Junior Miss pageant taking place on May 17 at 6 p.m. in the Middle School Auditeria. Doors open at 5:00 p.m. Tickets are $3 per person at the door. Children 4 years of age and under enter free.
