Supports the efforts to fund our public libraries

Dear Editor,

I am writing to express how important the public library system is to my family and me.

I read every day, library books and e books accessed from the public library, generally over 100 books a year.

I’m serious about literature, but I could never afford to purchase enough books to keep up with my habit!

Wherever we have lived, from Flint to Escanaba, Davison to Millington, the public library has been there as a place to connect with community.

As retirees, my husband and I use internet, printing and computer service when necessary – it is a lifesaver for those of us on fixed incomes, especially when we lived in the rural UP.

My daughter and I take my grandson to story hour every week. He has learned how books work as well as how to function in a group, taking turns and listening skills!

I have watched him grow in confidence, flourishing in the excellent program at the children’s library in Frankenmuth.

Through my life, the public library has been a constant source of knowledge and growth.

I made sure my own children had library cards at an early age and we loved to go listen to, as well as meet, “real authors” at the Flint and Lapeer libraries.

As a teacher, I made sure that my students understood how to use the library as a valuable learning tool.

The public library is a vital part of our community.

I strongly support continued full funding for our public libraries and urge our elected representatives to save federal funding.
