Beware of the orange barricades in Capac

Water system improvements underway

 

CAPAC — While many are anticipating the upcoming reconstruction of Main Street, village officials are also keeping a close eye on water system improvements and are pleased with the work done through February.

The sight of construction signs, barricades and heavy equipment will be commonplace in Capac for the next several months.

Village Manager Travis Youatt is quite pleased with the progress so far and shared an update through the village’s website to village residents.

“As many of you have noticed, there has been a lot of activity in the Village lately. Excavation crews are actively working throughout the area, while water contractors are busy connecting the new well at our water treatment plant.”

In his weekly update to the residents, Youatt said, “We’re excited to announce that this week we will be wrapping up the installation of approximately 20 new insertion valves throughout the Capac water system.

Water Tap Inc. has been doing an excellent job on this portion of the project, and we’d like to acknowledge the efforts of our general contractor, Superior Excavating Inc.”

He went on to add, “Their team has been staying ahead of the installation crew, digging the water mains and prepping the valve installation sites.”

Looking ahead to continued work throughout the village, Youatt reported, “We’re fortunate to work with some of the best contractors in the State of Michigan with decades of experience—helping us make these critical upgrades to our water system.”

As for what’s next, Youatt shared, “next week, Superior Excavating Inc. will begin installing cut-in valves and line stops. While this process is a more cost-effective method for valve installation, it may cause temporary water disturbances in the immediate areas of construction. We will do our best to provide advance notice as this work is underway.”

Youatt thanks residents and motorists passing through the village for their patience.

“We greatly appreciate your patience and understanding, as we continue these critical improvements to our infrastructure. We will continue to provide updates as the project progresses.”
