Arrest justified for fathers who abandon their children

Dear Editor,

The single mother of six, who had two of her children die of apparent hypothermia in the Hollywood Casino parking garage is talking about her situation and what lead to her family of six living in their minivan.

She is not being charged. After the investigation there was evidence; she had reached out to multiple local resource agencies to no avail. The mayor is calling for action because the system failed the family. You can imagine what groceries for six children costs today and a roof over their heads.

Why did she not reach out to the father or fathers of those children? I believe a father has a moral obligation to be involved in the raising and educating of his children. If I were a judge in Detroit, I have no problem signing an arrest warrant for one or more of those fathers; for abandonment and non-support of their children.

What ever happened to “doing 90 days for non-support?”
