Two-story building sustains heavy damage in five-alarm fire

No injuries; blaze may have started near wood stove

ARCADIA TWP. — Despite the efforts of firefighters from five Lapeer County fire departments, a two-story structure was extensively damaged by flames on Tuesday, November 26.

Arcadia Twp. firefighters received the call shortly after 2 p.m. Arcadia Chief Tom Knaggs said, “Lapeer City actually beat us there, so they had it slowed down by the time we got there.”

A strong westerly wind challenged firefighters with the extinguishment.

The building was located in the 3400 block of Haines Rd., just east of the intersection and Roscoe Rd, or about half way between Five Lakes and Lake Pleasant roads.

Along with the City of Lapeer, responding with mutual aid were Attica Twp., Imlay City, and Goodland Twp.

The location of the blaze was near the borderlines of service areas for the townships of Arcadia and Attica, and the City of Lapeer.

Fire officials on the scene said according to radio traffic, the fire may have ignited near a wood stove. The fire remains under investigation.
