Announcing candidacy for Goodland Twp. Trustee

Dear Editor,

I would like to announce my candidacy for the position of Trustee for Goodland Township in the August 6th Republican Primary.

My name is Michael Puzzuoli, and I have been married to my wife Janet for thirty-five years and am the father of three wonderful children: Sharon, Michael, and Christopher.

I am also the proud grandfather of four tremendous grandchildren: Brody, Shaylin, Jackson, and Ryker.

In 2015, I retired from The HoneyBaked Ham Company as Vice President of Operations. Later that year, our family opened Thumb Gun and Outfitters in Almont, Michigan.

We operated Thumb Gun until the spring of 2023 when we received an offer to buy the business and I retired for a second time.

For the past few years, I have attended most Board and Planning Commission meetings and at the beginning of 2024, I was appointed to the Goodland Township Planning Commission.

I am seeking the position of Trustee to help bring change to the Township. I feel there is an opportunity to aggressively pursue grant dollars from the federal and state governments for use to make positive changes within Goodland Township.

This includes grant dollars to improve our roads and deal with blight within the Township.

After reading your June 18 article about the success of Travis Youatt, Village Manager of Capac, in securing $12 million in grants over the past two years, it further inspired this goal of my candidacy for trustee.

I am also very concerned with the passage of Michigan Public Act 233 of 2023 which could potentially strip local control of zoning from our Township for wind, solar and battery storage.

This law can potentially take control of zoning industrial scale energy production from our Township and place it with a three-person commission, appointed by the Governor.

This has the potential to forever change the rural character of our community and turn Goodland into a commercial scale energy production facility.

I will fight to keep the rural character of Goodland Township and any decisions for implementation of wind, solar and battery storage with our local officials who are more capable of making decisions for the residents within Goodland Township.

I would like to serve Goodland Township in the capacity of Trustee and respectfully ask for your consideration and support in the August 6th Republican Primary.

Sincerely,
— Michael Puzzuoli
