Rojas places third at state wrestling finals

TRI-CITY AREA — Imlay City’s Daniel Rojas went 4-1 in the 132-pound weight class, paving the way to a third-place showing last Friday and Saturday at the Division 3 individual wrestling state finals.

Ford Field in Detroit is where the action unfolded.

Rojas started tournament action Friday with a 7-1 win against Ogemaw Heights foe Apollo Goulette, the eventual eighth-place finisher.

He followed it up with a 4-2 victory over Whitehall’s Max Krukowski, who would go on to secure a sixth.

Rojas then dropped a 7-0 verdict to Dundee’s Mason Katschor, the eventual state champion.

Those results earned a spot in Saturday’s action.

It was there he registered a 7-3 triumph against Howard City’s Isaac Glitchel, who would go on to claim a fifth.

He then met Lakewood’s Vincent Stamm for third place honors next.

When that confrontation ended, Rojas had obtained an 8-1 win.

Rojas, who ended the year at 42-13. garnered All-State accolades for his finish.

Brady Dahn, who competed in the 157-pound weight class, represented at the Division 3 state finals as well.

Dahn began his stint at states Friday with a 16-1 loss to Whitehall’s Liam Leeke, the eventual seventh-place finisher.

He then faced Kingsford’s Tyler Bray. It was there Bray handed him a 15-0 setback.

Dahn wrapped up the season with a 31-19 mark.

In the Division 4 portion of the tournament Gabe Peters and Kaleb Pietrzak competed for Capac.

Peters started things off Friday against Hesperia 106-pounder Carter Fuentes.. That clash ended with Fuentes, the eventual third-place finisher, prevailing by pin with 51 seconds elapsed.

The Capac grappler then squared off versus Mancelona’s Mike Clingan, who was 49-11 when they met. It was there Clingan, the eventual sixth-place finisher, won by pin with 3:52 gone.

Peters completed the season with a 27-13 mark.

Pietrzak opened his stint at 285 Friday with an 18-0 loss against Mayville’s Solomon Fisher.

He then challenged Climax-Scotts foe Cooper Dinse (30-10) next. It was there Dinse prevailed by a pin with 52 seconds elapsed.

Pietrzak finished with a 25-12 mark.
