Cards win league title

DRYDEN — The Dryden varsity boys’ basketball team saw to it that the Big Thumb Conference Blue Division title would belong to them at night’s end, pulling out a 58-52 overtime victory over visiting Kingston in a battle last Friday night.

With the outcome, Dryden moves to 13-7 and 6-0. Kingston slips to 11-10 and 5-2.

“What a great high school basketball game,” Dryden Coach John Delcampo commented. “Kingston has been a rival for a long time and this was another classic,” he noted.

In Friday’s battle, Dryden spotted Kingston a 13-5 advantage after one quarter was done and trailed 20-19 at the half.

When the action resumed, Dryden struck with a 15-13 third quarter edge. That staked them to a 34-33 edge at the time.

Quarter four would see Kingston counter with 15 points and Dryden manage 14, squaring the scoreboard count at 48-48 at the conclusion of regulation play.

Dryden then outscored Kingston 10-4 from that point on, securing a 58-52 victory.

For Dryden, Gianni Coscione (28 points) proved the toughest player to stop. The Cardinals also received points courtesy of Brady Schneider and Hayden Blair (eight each) along with Rowan Handley and Luke Taylor (seven apiece).
