Sgt. Leathers worthy of support

Residents of Imlay City, both within the city limits and throughout the township, are afforded a privilege that many communities no longer experience. We know our police officers not only by sight, but by name. We interact with them not just in moments of need, but as neighbors, partners, and members of the same community. This familiarity fosters trust, mutual respect, and a sense of shared responsibility that is invaluable, particularly during challenging and uncertain times.

I have had the opportunity to work alongside Sergeant Sean Leathers for several years, often in settings that extend beyond traditional law enforcement duties and where community safety is of the utmost importance. Time and again, Sergeant Leathers and the officers who serve with him have demonstrated professionalism, preparedness, and genuine care in ensuring that these events are not only secure, but welcoming. Their presence provides reassurance, their planning prevents risk, and their actions consistently reflect a commitment to protecting our people and this community.

What sets Sergeant Leathers apart is not only his leadership in critical moments, but the quiet, human moments that define true service. I have personally witnessed officers pause amid demanding situations to make a child smile with a small gesture, or to comfort a frightened resident with patience and compassion. These moments are not performed for recognition. They are instinctive, sincere, and rooted in pride for the community they serve. Sergeant Leathers exemplifies this character through countless actions, both seen and unseen, demonstrating his dedication not only to his duties, but to the people behind them.

In a time when many communities across the country are struggling to maintain trust and connection between law enforcement and residents, Imlay City stands as a model of what is possible. While we may not be a movie set, we are fortunate to have individuals like Sergeant Leathers, Officer Eckout, Officer Siegle, Officer Young, and the entire Imlay City Police Department who serve with integrity, empathy, and commitment. Their presence makes Imlay City not only a safe place to live, but one of the best places to belong.

This is something worthy of recognition, gratitude, and continued support. We see you and we got you!
