Seven area grapplers headed to the state finals in Detroit

TRI-CITY AREA — A total of seven Tri-City Area grapplers will compete this Friday and Saturday at the individual wrestling state finals.

Detroit’s Ford Field is where the action unfolds.

Imlay City will have two representatives Friday at the Division 3 state finals.

At 126 pounds, Tanner Land (39-7) opens his tournament stint against Watervliet’s Luke Isbrecht (40-6).

The victor of that match squares off versus the winner of a bout between Grand Rapids Catholic Central’s Dale Grant (36-1) and Kingsford’s Reed Degroot (39-9).

At 132 pounds, Christopher Galiana (41-7) starts tournament action versus Adrian Madison’s Paul McClure (33-10).

The winner of that battle meets the survivor of an encounter between Frankenmuth’s Bradyn Curtis (33-3) and Hartland’s Haylen Boos (31-1).

Capac will send three boys on to the Division 4 state finals.

At 113 pounds, Tyler McKenney (41-1) begins his tournament stint against Martin’s Urijah Joostberns (29-11).

The victor of that match squares off versus the winner of a bout between Rudyard’s Dalton Savoie (36-9) and Holton’s Kollin Nichols (34-18).

At 120 pounds, Ryan Grant (40-11) starts tournament action versus Manistique’s Johnathan Weber (27-9).

The winner of that battle meets the survivor of an encounter between Martin’s Logan Gilbert (37-5) and Beaverton’s Eric Larson (26-17).

At 126 pounds, Sam Schneider (41-12) gets things underway against New Lothrop’s Hunter Wolf (38-10).

The victor of that match squares off versus the winner of a bout between Lawton’s Austin Garcia (49-4) and Houghton Lake’s Mason Langlois (30-10).

Capac will also have two representatives in the girls’ individual state finals.

At 110 pounds, Cierra Helzer (17-4) opens against Tri’s Roni Rivard (18-4).

The winner of that battle meets the survivor of an encounter between John Glen’s Nakayla Dawson (8-0) and Sturgis foe Geovana Cruz (16-13).

Ava Klink will compete for Capac in the 155-pound weight class.

Klink (15-8) starts things off against Plymouth’s Marissa Richmond (23-3).

The victor of that match squares off versus the winner of a bout between Standish’s Aliyah Schalk (36-4) and Mattawan’s Shylah Twyman (21-8).
