The chili cook-off competition in Capac is beginning to heat up this year.

CAPAC — The second annual Fall Festival and chili cook-off in Capac is rapidly approaching, keeping organizers busy with final plans.

Capac Village Manager Travis Youatt said work behind the scenes has been on-going for some time and everyone is excited to see what is new for 2024.

The festival will be held Saturday, October 12. Melody Park, at the intersection of Main and Church Streets, will be the hub of the event that runs from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m.

“This is our second annual Fall Festival and Chili Cook-Off,” he said. A group of people, “started the festival last year with the intent that the festival would help promote local businesses, get people into the businesses, and, of course, taste chili!”

Perhaps most appropriately, last year, the Mussey Township Fire Dept. won the contest with their extra hot, tasty creation and they are already working on fine tuning their secret recipe in hopes of defending their title. The competition is sure to heat up this year, with several new entries planning on being in the chili cook-off.

According to Youatt, another big hit last year was the farmers and craft market. He says this year is sure to be bigger and better than their inaugural festival.

“We had several vendors and are looking to expand even more on it this year,” Youatt said. “We do hayrides throughout town, there’s cider and donuts for visitors (liquid gold food truck), face painting, pumpkin painting and a candy drop for the kids.”

Youatt said something new this year is a dessert contest to see who makes the best dessert in town. Reportedly, there has been no shortage of volunteers to judge.

Youatt noted, “The dessert contest is a way for individuals to get involved. We will also have a DJ providing some music.”

Officials expect to have approximately 20 businesses/organizations participating in the festival. Stay tuned to Facebook for updates.
