Chiefs score 68 against Cards

Capac gets homecoming victory

 

TRI-CITY AREA — Capac varsity football made sure it would prevail, registering a 68-38 homecoming win against visiting Dryden in a Big Thumb Conference Blue Division clash last Friday night.

With the result, Capac moves to 2-3 and 1-3. Dryden slips to 3-2 and 2-2.

“Dryden has some very talented players, which made it a very competitive and intense game through three quarters,” Capac co-coach Troy Schneider commented. “Fortunately, we made some big plays on both sides of the ball to be able to pull away in the fourth.”

On the opposite sideline, Dryden Coach Hunter Gall gave credit where it was due.

“We were out executed all night,” Gall commented. “We are going to move past this, keep our heads down and get to work, he noted.

“We have a lot to improve on this week.”

In Friday’s clash, Capac grabbed a 14-12 edge after one quarter was over with.

They then outscored Dryden 16-12 during quarter two, widening the gap to 30-24 at the half.

When the action resumed, Capac struck with a 24-16 third quarter advantage. That staked them to a 54-38 cushion at the time.

Capac then outscored Dryden 14-0 the rest of the way, closing out a favorable 68-38 outcome.

The winning Capac side accumulated their 68 points aided by Sam Schneider 70-yard fumble return for a touchdown (followed by an Alan Uribe-Arce PAT tote); a Brody Tesnow to Boston Vock 24-yard touchdown pass; a seven-yard touchdown run by Uribe-Arce (followed by a Vock PAT tote); a Tesnow to Wiley Roose eight-yard touchdown pass (followed by a PAT tote by Brian Canelo-Rodriguez); a Tesnow to Vock 15-yard touchdown pass (followed by a PAT tote by Roose); a Uribe-Arce eight-yard touchdown run (followed by a Roose PAT tote); a Uribe-Arce five-yard touchdown run (followed by a Uribe-Arce PAT tote); a Uribe-Arce 12-yard touchdown run; and a Gabe Peters three-yard touchdown run (followed by a Peters PAT tote).

Dryden managed their 38-point total thanks to a Gianni Coscione to Santiago Perales 25-yard touchdown pass; a Gianni Coscione to Brady Schneider five-yard touchdown pass; a Sonny Coscione 10-yard touchdown run; a Perales 15-yard touchdown run; a Gianni Coscione one-yard touchdown run (followed by a Brady Schneider PAT tote); and a Gianni Coscione one-yard touchdown run.

For the night, Tesnow (four for five for 59 yards and no interceptions) and Uribe-Arce (two for two for 67 yards) shared the quarterback assignment for Capac.

Their successful tosses were distributed to four different targets. That group consisted of Roose (two catches for 40 yards), Vock (two receptions for 39 yards), Sam Schneider (one catch for 35 yards) and Uribe-Arce (one reception for 12 yards).

The Capac ground game finished with 282 yards on 36 totes.

Schneider (17 rushes for 141 yards), Uribe-Arce (94 yards on 11 totes) and Peters (six rushes for 36 yards) supplied the top Capac totals. The remaining two Chief rushes netted a combined 11-yard gain.

Schneider (five solos and 11 assists) and Peters (three solos and 11 assists) generated the top Capac tackle outputs. They were backed by Uribe-Arce (three solos and five assists), Brendan Bussone (five solos and two assists), Roose (one solo and five assists) plus Brandon Szuch and Seth Turner (three solos and two assists each).

The Capac defense also registered one takeaway. Schneider (a fumble recovery) provided that.

On the night, Gianni Coscione completed nine of 16 pass plays for 103 yards for Dryden. He threw zero interceptions en route to those numbers.

Brady Schneider (five catches for 43 yards), Perales (two receptions for 35 yards) and Sonny Coscione (two catches for 25 yards) hauled in his accurate tosses.

The Dryden ground attack wound up with 237 yards on 36 totes.

Gianni Coscione (18 rushes for 134 yards) and Sonny Coscione (51 yards on eight totes) provided Dryden’s top totals. The remaining 10 Cardinal rushes resulted in a combined 52-yard gain.

Dain Raymond (two solos and three assists) produced Dryden’s highest tackle outputs. Owen Gall (two solos and two assists) and David Insley (one solo and four assists) made their presence felt as well.

Capac returns to action this Friday with a road trip to Mayville, while Dryden hosts Brown City. Those Big Thumb Conference Blue Division clashes are slated to get underway at 7 p.m.
