Imlay City squeaks past Algonac

IMLAY CITY — Imlay City pulled out a 23-22 road victory over Algonac in a Blue Water Area Conference varsity football meeting last Friday night.

With the result, Imlay City improves to 2-3 and 1-3. Algonac slips to 1-4 and 0-4.

“Both teams played a very tough game,” Imlay City Coach Dave Brown commented. “I am very proud of my team for their great effort and ability to overcome adversity this week,” he noted.

“We came together as a team.”

In Friday’s game, Imlay City took an 8-0 edge after one quarter was done.

The middle two quarters saw Algonac manage 14 points and Imlay City generate seven, leaving the latter ahead 15-14 with 36 minutes gone.

Both teams produced eight points the rest of the way, giving Imlay City a 23-22 victory.

Imlay City amassed their 23-point total aided by a Travis Tramontana 20-yard touchdown run (followed by a PAT tote by Tramontana); a Tramontana 45-yard touchdown run (followed by a successful extra point kick courtesy of Andrew Cezik); a Tramontana seven-yard touchdown run (followed by a PAT tote from Tramontana).

For the evening, Matt Evans completed two of five pass plays for 14 yards) as Imlay City’s quarterback. He threw one interception along the way.

His successful tosses went to two different targets. Their ranks consisted of Noah Graboyes (one catch for 12 yards) and Travis Bush (one reception for two yards).

The Imlay City ground attack added 267 yards on 36 totes.

Individually, Tramontana led Imlay City with 26 rushes for 251 yards. The remaining 10 Spartan totes netted a combined 16-yard gain.

Tramontana (11) and Graboyes (six) posted the highest Imlay City tackle totals. Cezik and Bush (five stops each) and Jaydin Hall (four) made their presence felt as well.

Imlay City will look to make it two wins in a row this Friday when they travel to Richmond for a BWAC encounter. That matchup lists a 7 p.m. starting time.
