Capac alum give graduates scholarships

On June 22, 2024, Capac Classmates Promoting Future Adults (CCPFA) held its 3rd annual Weapons of Grass Destruction Golf Scramble at Belle River Golf Course in Memphis.

127 golfers participated. classmates representing 1968-2026— fifty-eight years of students. The oldest player was 84 years old. He is the husband of a 1960 Capac graduate and father to 5 graduates: 1979, 1981, 1982, 1984 and 1986. The youngest were members of the CHS golf team entering their junior year in the fall. A fellow classmate sponsored their team.

Teams consisted of fathers and sons, mothers and daughters, sisters, brothers, cousins, best friends, mentors and mentees, neighbors, co-workers, former coaches, friends, and members of the Capac community. All coming together with the ultimate goal of raising money for the CCPFA career scholarship and having FUN while doing it. A lot of reuniting was going on. Some classmates had not seen each other in over forty years. New memories were definitely made out on the course.

What started 3 years ago following the 40th reunion as a fun way for the Capac Class of 1981 to get together, play golf and have fun, has grown into an alumni and community supported fundraiser for a career scholarship.

All proceeds from the scramble are used to support the post-secondary career path of a Capac senior or qualified home-schooled student residing in the Capac School District through a career scholarship.

Originally the career scholarship was created for a student to attend a college, university, trade school or certification program. This year, the criteria has been expanded to include opening a business that enriches the community.

The scholarship focuses on character, community mindedness, and drive for self-improvement.

Volunteer work and giving back to the community are heavily weighted with the student identifying how they are “Most Improved”. It is designed in a way that any student regardless of academic abilities or athletic prowess is able to achieve the award.

Kyle Wetter, a senior at Capac High School in 2023 was the first CCPFA scholarship recipient. With growing generosity of all involved and the success of last year’s scramble, CCPFA can now offer a one-year recurring scholarship to the previous recipient.

As the previous recipient, Kyle applied and was awarded $2,000 this year. Kyle has helped throughout the year in many ways and continues to set an example of character and community.

Dori Stuever is the 2024 CCPFA Career Scholarship recipient. Dori received $3,000 and is eligible to apply next year for the recurring scholarship.
