Costumed canines support local shelter
ATTICA TWP. — Dozens of area residents and their four-legged companions gathered at Attica Township Park on Sunday, Oct. 11, for the fourth annual Howl-o-ween walk and adoption event.
Hosted jointly by Lapeer County Animal Control and Paradise Animal Rescue, the seasonal fundraiser featured community members and rescue dogs dressed in festive costumes. Highlights included Volly — a Boston Terrier-Chihuahua mix rescue from Texas — dressed as Geoffrey the Toys “R” Us giraffe alongside owners Carrie and Philip Kloska of Lapeer, as well as North Branch resident Zach Hiiter, who attended with his golden retriever, Apollo.
In addition to the dog walk and costume festivities, volunteers like Carrey Clark worked to connect shelter residents — including a featured dog named Baby Girl — with prospective adopters as part of ongoing local adoption efforts.
