John Smyczak

John Smyczak, age 63, of Imlay City went to be with the Lord our Father surrounded by his loving family Wednesday, September 30, 2026, at Hurley Medical Center of Flint, Michigan. 

John Michael Smyczak was born March 11, 1963, in Detroit, Michigan. He is the son of the late Walter and the late Marie (Gosswein) Smyczak. 

John grew up in Attica, Michigan, and lived most of his life in the Imlay City, Michigan, area. He attended Imlay City High School. He married Victoria Carlisle on March 29, 1980 in Attica, Michigan.

John was a member of Juniata Baptist Church in Vassar, Michigan. He was employed as a Diesel Mechanic and Equipment Operator by North Lapeer Recycling in Deerfield, Michigan, and retired in 2026. John also built decks and was a handyman. He was a loving husband and devoted father and grandfather.

John is survived by his wife, Victoria Smyczak of Imlay City, Michigan; sons, Michael (Amanda) Smyczak of Vassar, Michigan, Victor Smyczak of Imlay City, Michigan, and Brandon (Cassie) Smyczak of Imlay City, Michigan. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Alena, Michael, Shelby, Dezerae, Evan, Fasia, Robert, Charles, Jasper and Jonah; and sisters, Astrid (Jerry) Schwab of Davison, Michigan, and Patricia (Paul) Ruhala of Swartz Creek, Michigan.

He was preceded in death by his son, Patrick Allen Smyczak; and his brother, Tom Smyczak.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, October 7, 2026, at Muir Brothers Funeral Home of Imlay City, 225 N. Main Street, Imlay City, MI. John Peck and David Hill will officiate.

The family will be available for visitation 10-11 a.m. Wednesday, October 7, at Muir Brothers Funeral Home of Imlay City.
