VOLLEYBALL ROUNDUP: Imlay City volleyball sweeps Cros-Lex
IMLAY CITY — Imlay City garnered a 25-19, 25-21, 25-19 win against Cros-Lex in a Blue Water Area Conference varsity volleyball confrontation on Tuesday, Sept. 22.
Mia Zepeda and Mia-Ann Grapentin (11 each), Millie Craven (six), Isabella O’Malley, Evelyn Robertson (five apiece) and Addison Brown (four) accounted for Imlay City’s kills. Kendall Jones (22) and O’Malley (12) combined for 34 set assists as Imlay City’s offensive catalysts. Lyla Russell (13), Roslyn Bruman (12), Zepeda (10), O’Malley (six), Jones and Brown (three each) plus Robertson (two) notched Imlay City’s digs. Craven (five), Grapentin (four), Zepeda and Roberston (three apiece) along with Brown (one) provided Imlay City’s blocks. Bruman (three), O’Malley (two) plus Jones and Zepeda (one apiece) added Imlay City’s ace serves.
Capac volleyball splits pair of matches
CAPAC — The Capac varsity volleyball team halved a pair of matches this past week.
Capac opened the two-match stretch with a 25-12, 25-10, 25-8 non-league road win against Landmark Academy on Tuesday, Sept. 22.
MaryBeth Klein (15 set aces) and Dellah Rodriguez (nine) were Capac’s offensive catalysts. Madelynn Dudley (nine), Karina Ramirez (six) and Ava Marlin Hovey (five) posted the highest Capac kill totals. Ava Thorner contributed four digs for Capac. Dudley and Liliana Uribe Arce added eight and seven ace serves, respectively, to Capac’s cause.
Two days later, Capac dropped a 20-25, 20-25, 18-25 outcome to visiting Big Thumb Conference Blue Division counterpart Deckerville.
Dudley (eight kills) paced Capac as far as hitting was concerned.
Uribe Arce (12) plus Thorner and Klein (nine each) furnished Capac’s top dig totals
Dudley provided Capac with five blocks.
Klein added 16 set assists to Capac’s cause.
Dryden volleyball stumbles against Mayville
DRYDEN — Dryden gave visiting Mayville a battle, before falling 16-25, 15-25, 19-25 in a Big Thumb Conference Blue Division varsity volleyball contest on Tuesday, Sept. 22.
Stori Zink led Dryden with three ace serves that evening. Celine Nguyen and Elaina Yatros (one each) supplied the remaining Cardinal aces. Karley Phillips (three) and Abby Tonkoshkur (one) added Dryden’s kills.
Almont volleyball swept by North Branch
ALMONT — Almont dropped a 9-25, 14-25, 15-25 verdict to visiting North Branch in a Blue Water Area Conference varsity volleyball meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 22.
Emily Howard (six), Madison Derk (three) along with Cora Wangler, Kali Tencza, Lilly Samp and Norah Bishop (one each) generated Almont’s kills. Derk (16), Tencza (13), Howard (12), Wangler (nine) and Samp (two) contributed to Almont’s digs. Nora Battaglia, Wangler and Samp (one apiece) managed Almont’s ace serves.
Almont also received nine and three set assists, respectively, from Wangler and Battaglia.
Dryden volleyball swept on the road at Kingston
DRYDEN — Dryden returned from Kingston with a 12-25, 18-25, 19-25 setback in a Big Thumb Conference Blue Division varsity volleyball encounter last Thursday.
Kayla Lapka led Dryden with four aces that evening. Abby Tonkoshkur (two) along with Celine Nguyen, Karley Phillips and Elaina Yatros (one each) managed Dryden’s kills.
Dryden also received 10 digs, courtesy of Phillips.
