Almont, Imlay City Trap teams excel

Fifteen of Almont’s 20 trap shooters participated at the Michigan Trap Association’s Fall Brawl competition in Mason on Saturday, Sept. 15.

Team coaches said the weather was miserable, but the students were determined to do their best in wet conditions.

“At times you could actually see the shot flying through all the rain like it was a tracer round,” said Coach Andy Roosa.

Even with the bad weather, the team did amazing according to their coaches.

Emerson McConnell and Jaxson Kozik both shot 25 straight in the day’s competition.

Shane Roosa had five solid rounds of shooting to place  as Runner-Up Champion Class A Division with a score of 91/100. Kozik finished sixth place overall with a 97/100. As a team, Almont finished in seventh place.

Imlay city claims 1st at Fall Brawl

Meanwhile, the Imlay City Spartans brought home first place in its division at the Fall Brawl.

The team said although it was a wet, cold day, that didn’t stop the Spartans from getting the job done.

The coaching staff said the team battled through the weather, shot strong and represented Imlay City with pride.

The coaches pointed to the performance of three of their members, Jason Sefcovic who rattled off two consecutive 25 scores, Tegan Fryer who had a 25-straight of his own and Liam Furgerson who was a first place individual in his division.

Coaches and parents said a hearty congratulations to the entire IC Spartan Clay Team on an incredible accomplishment.

After competition earlier last week, week one is officially a wrap and the young Spartan sharpshooters are already showing what they’re made of.

The past week’s scores (out of 50 shots) were:

Top Gun: Jason Sefcovic, 45; tied for second place was Lyle Parsch and Tegan Fryer, both with a score of 42, Sam Prescott 39, Jasmin Sefcovic 36, Liam Furgerson 33, Brayden Kalbfleisch 32, Rowan Jagow 32, Colton Parsch 29, Aiden Beckwith 28.

Coaches said the scores were close, the competition strong and the improvement for their young team continues to show each time on the range.

The Spartans use the policy no one sits the bench and every shot is an opportunity to improve.
